General Notes: Our beloved father, Alan Anton Zier, passed away in his home on January 5, 2020.
Alan was born on March 20, 1933 in Odessa, Washington. His mother, Katharine “Katie” Horn, was the daughter of Rev. Karl Anton Horn, who spread the Lutheran gospel on horseback throughout Montana, Washington and Northern Oregon in the 1800’s and e arly 1900’s. Alan’s father, George Zier, was a farmer with a twinkle in his eye, who owned several hundred acres of property which the family farmed in Odessa. George Zier was the first man to drive an automobile to the Odessa church in the 1920’s . Alan was the youngest of 8 sons, and he and his brothers helped his parents manage the farm in Odessa until the family moved to Davenport. Alan’s ancestors donated the property which the Odessa Cemetery is located, and his ancestors are buried t here. Alan’s memorial stone rests with his parents’ markers at the Odessa Cemetery.

Scholastically, Alan was an extremely popular overachiever - Class President of Davenport High, Debate Team President, Football Team Captain, and Golden Gloves boxing champion. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. Alan had a rich singing voice and love d to sing up until his final days. He sang in the church and school choirs, acted in school plays, and played multiple instruments. Alan, his 7 older brothers, and their father all drove snazzy automobiles, including the family’s “church car”, a 1 957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Alan loved classic cars his entire life.

After graduating from Davenport High, Alan joined the Army and served as a communications specialist, stationed in South Korea. He could recite and speak “Morse Code” up until a few months before his death. He was a decorated Korean War veteran (F oreign Service medal), and also continued boxing quite successfully in the Army, defeating other branches of the service. Due to Alan’s communications expertise, he was recruited by the CIA but turned them down because he missed his family and dec ided to return home to Davenport. After his military career, Alan pursued theology studies at Pacific Lutheran University and Whitworth University, however his path changed when his family came along. He discontinued his ministry studies to work a s a crane operator at Kaiser Aluminum (Mead), retiring there after 30+ years.

An avid hunter, Alan shot one of the largest white tail deer in Washington’s history in 1966. His trophy buck was featured in the Spokesman Review Newspaper. He enjoyed hunting in Alaska and would return home with the wild bounty of deer, caribou , elk, moose and bear meat to feed his family. He also loved fishing, playing poker, collecting classic cars, reading the Bible, analyzing Biblical scriptures, and preaching the Gospel.

Alan is survived by his 4 children - Lajuanna Zier of Honolulu, eldest son Ricky Alan Zier of Deer Park, and sons Jimmy Anton Zier and Kelly Zier of Spokane. Alan’s 3 grandsons, Hunter, Wyatt and Luke Zier reside in Spokane. Alan’s granddaughters , Krissa Zier, Heidi Zier and Kailey Anne Ivy Zier reside outside of Spokane. Until the end of his life, Alan and Lajuanna were regular visitors at Loon Lake’s Granite Point Park, where they enjoyed fishing and the eternal quest for the illusive “ big one.” A private memorial service will be held on Father’s Day in Odessa, and a ceremony will also be conducted at the Veterans Cemetery on Alan’s birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you thank a veteran for their invaluable s ervice to our great country, and cast your line at Loon Lake’s Granite Point Park in quest for “the big one.” “Let’s go fishing” in Heaven, Dad.

48. Beatrix Belva Horn (Karl Gottlieb Christian25, Karl Anton17, Karl Friedrich11, Johan Adam Friedrich7, Johann Gottfried6, Johann Gottlieb5, Gottlieb4, Joseph3, Georg (E)2, Johannes1) was born on January 28, 1922 in Davenport, Lincoln, Washington, USA, was christened in Davenport, Lincoln, Washington, USA, died on February 7, 1994 in Apache Junction, Pinal, Arizona, USA, at age 72, and was buried in August 1995 in Davenport, Lincoln, Washington, USA. The cause of her death was heart failure due to asthmas attack.

General Notes: Beatrix Amelia Horn was born on 28 January, 1922 in Davenport, Washington, to Carl Horn and Belva Tobiasen. They lived in the little white house in the next lot from the Tobiasen brick house. Both Bea and Dolores were born there. Bea was my big si ster, which meant she could tell me what to do. She would sit beside me and dish up my plate as food was passed during meal time. The one thing that I really, really remember, was Bea making me sit at the kitchen table until I ate my cooked carrot s, with me bawling and a runny nose. I must have eaten some and then the rest shoved to the floor, (we didn't have a dog!), but she stayed with me. Terry would come to take Bea on a date, if she was not ready he would sit down and visit. I woul d invariability be sitting right close to him or on his lap; she would ask me to get off of his lap so they could go out. Terry was an only child so was close with our family as I was growing up. Remember Bea was nine years older than me. Bea an d Terry played tennis together and made the Davenport High tennis team. They played well together as doubles against another couple Bea was there to help our Dad when he was ill with his asthma and later with his cancer of the liver. Our asthma i s a heredity gene which his father had and moved down the generations to Bea and myself. Mom had her heart attack and I came down to see her at the Lincoln Hospital. She appeared to be feeling better, so we both were chatting away. When here come s Bea in to her room, as a nurse, not as a daughter and sister, but as part of the medical field. She did not know that Mom had company. Guess the machines in the office were changing, which gave her a start. She wouldn't let me stay long to visi t Mom! That is how dedicated she was to her patients.

Here is the eulogy that Rodney did at his Mom's funeral Feb 1994 in Arizona. I could not write any better about Bea: JHR
On behalf of my Mom, my Dad and our entire family, I want to thank you, Pastor Gage, the choir, Keith, Peg, the congregation, and everyone who is here for your love and support for the family and especialy for your love of Mom. Today, our heart s are saddned because we can no longer enjoy the physical presence of my Mom, Bea Buchser. A person loved by so many; A person who devoted her life to helping others. Although Mom never did want attention, she did like to celebrate. Therefore I p ropose: Let us make this Day of Celebration; A day of Memorial and Reunion; A day of Love and Support; A day of Surrender and Release; A day to Feel the Presence of God and realize how precious Life is! For today, we are gathered here in God's ho use to say our prayers, give our Respect and to Express our Love to my Mom, Bea Buchser. Beatrix Belva Horn Buchser was a great soul while living here on Earth. To day she is in Paradise! Mom's in Heaven with those loved ones who have gone befor e her. She is with the Lord! Today, she is singing and playing her music in Heaven's choir, glorifying God! And we miss her so very much. For those who may not know what happened, I feel compelled to mention th at Mom had been suffering from ast hma for many years. In the last couple of years her chronic asthma required frequent treatments daily with medication through a ventilator machine (nebulizer machine), many times late at night. And on Feburary 7th, 1994 about midnight, Mom suffer ed a severe asthma attack while taking her medication. Her lungs were so weak, that even a tracheotomy performed by the emergency people failed to get her the air she needed and her heart failed. As Dad says, "she's resting easy now." Beatrix Be lva Horn was born in Davenport, Washington on January 28, 1922 to Carl and Belva Horn. Growing up, Bea was the oldest of four sisters which include Dolores Moeller, who is here from Hawaii, Carla Boleneus, who is here with her husband, Everett, w ho came from Davenport, Washington and Jeanne Ross, who is here with her husband, Jack, who came from Spokane, Washington. At an early age Mom discovered one of her Passions - Music! Whether it was singing or playing the piano or organ, Mom reall y enjoyed music. As a freshman in high school Mom and Dolores, who was then in the 7th grade, sang at funerals, taking over for their Mom, who had retired from the same. Carla and Jeanne also sang at funerals. And as a child growing up I remembe r the sisters together at our house, with such beautiful harmonies, that you knew they were in touch with the divinie spirit. And her love for this choir, I am sure she is very pleased with the music that is being played today. Amazing Grace wa s one of her favorites. (Bea played piano for the church choir) In 1944, two very important things happened, events that took place in Mom 's life: She graduated from Sacred Heart Medical Center School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. A nd in July, on July 21, 1944, Mom married her high school sweetheart, then Lt. in the Army, Donald Terrence Buchser. My Dad, who loved Mom so very much. Bea and Terry had three children that are also here today. Ronald Terrence, who came from C anoga Park, California and Rollie Jo Brehens, who came from Republic, Washington and myself. They have four grandchildren of which three were able to be here today. Richelle Behrens Greenwood, Rollie 's daughter, and Brieann and Brittany, daughter s to my wife, Nancy and myself. Bea and Terry also have one great grandchild, Teal, Richelle's daughter. In addition, Bea had 15 nieces and nephews. In 1944, my Dad went to war, so my Dad's Mom,Thelma Newton and Mom, started a retail store that l ater became Buchser's Apparel. For nearly twenty years Mom helped Dad run the store. Yet, during this time, Bea was also a full-time Mom. She was always home when we came home from school. And both my Mom and Dad never missed an event any of kid s were involved with, from plays, musicals and dramas, to every kind of sporting activity, basketball, tennis, or football. My folks were always there for us. And Mom was an inspriation to us all!! She was a great teacher. She taught us by examp le - the importance of hard work, responsibility, self-reliance, leadership. They always told me I was a leader, not a follower, which probably inspired me to stretch and to be here today. Bea Buchser's life was one of dedicated service to other s! From 1963 until 1981, Mom was one of the head nurses in Lincoln County Hospital in Davenport. There are so many stories to tell of her helping others. But if you knew Mom you wouldn't be surprised to hear for example. she might notice a bed n eeds changing, and even though she was the head nurse and could ask another nurse to fix the bed, Mom would say, "that bed needs changing, let's do it right now!" In 1981 Mom and Dad retired to Queen Valley, Ariozona. And again Mom was a helper . She helped take care of Dad's step-dad, Ed Newton, who had Alzeimers. More recently Mom helped take care of Dad's Mom, Thelma Newton, who will be 91 in May, who is here also today. We love you Grandma. Mom's whole like was helping people! Sh e was a devoted wife to dad for over 50 years. She was a loving and nurturing Mother. She was a kind and fun Grandmother. She was a Teacher, a Healer to the Sick, a loving Sister, and a Friend to all. She was a Christian. Mom loved bridge, bing o and jigsaw puzzles. And the Phoenix Suns are very fortunate indeed because they now have a guardian angel rooting from Heaven. Bea Buchser had so many gifts and talents. She was truly blessed as we have been truly blessed to be in her company . For me, she gave me life, and through her example. she showed me the joy and reward of serving others. Bea Buchser was as strong woman, She had courage and determination, She was a doer, She was a pioneer woman with a pioneer spirit. At Powde r Horn Bay on Coeur D Alene Lake in Idaho, where Mom loved to be in the summer months, she personally helped to build roads, houses, clear acres of brush and trees, and beaches of rocks with her bare hands. Mom loved to work with her hands whethe r it was gardening, hooking beads, crocheting, crafts of any kind and could those fingers ever play a piano or organ. Bea Buchser was never afraid to work. In fact she was always on the go. Until her asthma began to take its toil. Even then fe w poeple knew of her condition because she refused to give into a debilitating situation. But God's will has been done. Rodney H Buchser 1995 Thanks Rod! ( ) were my insets. JHR

49. Dolores Bertha Horn (Karl Gottlieb Christian25, Karl Anton17, Karl Friedrich11, Johan Adam Friedrich7, Johann Gottfried6, Johann Gottlieb5, Gottlieb4, Joseph3, Georg (E)2, Johannes1) was born on March 3, 1924 in Davenport, Lincoln, Washington, USA, was christened in 1924 in Davenport, Lincoln, Washington, USA, and died on December 31, 2008 in Kaneohe, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, at age 84.

General Notes: Dolores Bertha Matilda Horn was born and raised in Davenport, Washington. I attended 12 years of school, and graduating from Davenport High School in 1942. I joined the Old National Bank in Davenport in August 1942, then in 1943 I transferred t o the Main Branch in Spokane, Washington. I was named after Dolores Cassells, whose father was one of the owers of the hardware store in Davenport under the name of Denson & Cassells. Dolores went to the Hawaiian Islands in the early 30's and taug ht school there, sending me things from there. So from that time I could not get the Islands out of my mind. After working for ONB for ten years, I took my profit sharing and headed for Hawaii. I arrived on the Lurline, October 26, 1952, met lot s of nurses on the ship. On the Sunday after I arrived I sat under the big huge Banyan Tree at the famous Moana Hotel and cried my eyes out as I was so homesick in one weeks time. They were putting the three main ships that had regular routes fro m the Mainland to the Islands into dry dock and would not be operating until sometime in February 1953. So to go back home would be costly as I came with eight bags of luggage, including a typewriter, and sewing machine!! I worked at a radio stat ion KGMB, which had just switched to TV. The first station that introduced TV to Hawaii in Dec 1952. In February 1953, I received a telephone call from Bishop Bank, which has since changed to several banks and today First Hawaiian Bank. I worke d in the Kailua Branch for nine years as a teller and later transferred to the Main Branch in Honolulu in 1967 to New Accounts Department, which was like a PR job and really fun. In 1969 the Escrow Department was started and I was asked to join th e staff. I retired in April 1987 with the title of Assistant Vice president. I really loved the escrow work, even the long hours but very rewarding. When I was working in Honolulu in 1953, my folks made their first visit. Can you imagine my Da d and Mom walking down the streets in Waikiki Beach with just bathing suits on. Well, they did and returned for two more visits until my Dad had health problems. Their first two visits were surprises! Daddy always like to surprise people and th e first time they came I almost had a heart attack! They just walked into the bank, where I was a teller at the time, and asked to see my boss. He went along with their surprise, then came up to me and said he had a special project for me, that t ook me downstairs near the safety deposit boxes. My boss guided me into this room and as I entered the room, there sat Mom and Daddy all grins. Of course we Hugged and Cried and Screamed. I nearly had a heart attack! The second time. was afte r I was married and Vic's folks were in on the surprise. After having the folks visit here, it made living here so much easier, as wrting was more fun as they knew what I was talking about. Vic (Victor Manuel Moeller) and I met at the bank in 1953 . He didn't like "Coast Haole" as we were called. Well, he changed mind about this one, as we were engaged in April 1955 and married here on July 16 1955. We moved to our present residence in July 1968. We have no children but have turned to b e cat lovers. We have Skoshi III, who is going on 11 years and have accepted to strays, we call Blue and Brown. Blue is getting very friendly and loves to just sit on Vic's lap, while we are trying to make Brown more people friendly and she is c oming around. Vic has taken up golfing and he tries to play a couple times a week. Vic has lived here all of his life and really hard to get him to the Mainland, although we have been there several times. I belonged to a women's golf group, but di scontinued in 1999. I joined a gym and exercise 3 times a week, do crafts, as painting shirts, crocheting, knitting, playing my organ and meeting friends coming and going at the airport. As you can see I Love Hawaii, we have entertained many man y people from the Mainland and friends here. So as of this date May 23, 2001, I will bid you ALOHA, until we meet again!!!
Dolores Horn Moeller 2001.

" In May of 2005 Dee had a inplantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD). The last time I saw Dr. Yee, my cardioligist, he mention at my age (81) Ii could have a stroke and in a nursing home, the whole ball of wax. Then he suggested that the defib rillator would probably be what I needed. The ICD is a device that's placed in your body to help control the heart rhythm (the speed and pattern of the heartbeat). It is placed on the right or left side (left side for her). When you have heart f ailure, your is weakened and doesn't pump as well as it should. This means parts of the body don't get enough blood and oxygen. Heart failure causes symptoms such as having less energy and being short of breath. Now what this Dr. is going to du e is the ICD with a combination of the CRI. I hope this makes sense. When I was in the hospital in June '02, they said that I had had a heart attack, but I don't know when as I never ran across anyting like that.............maybe a silent one. S o when he mentioned STROKE... it made me think that this maybe the way to go. Today they took three viles of blood, so after the Dr. talks with my heart Dr. they will setup a date, I am hoping sooner than later." Dolores Moeller 2005 In the ba ck of her mind Dee was thinking of our Mom as these were her symptoms but they did not do this in 1981. She came through the surgery beautifully. The three month checkup, they connect her to the computer and Dr. watches the operation of her heart . She sits behind and doesn't look, typical of Dee, "just tell what is happening" and not about to look. She is back to going to gym 3 times a week and does her weeding. She keeps regular checkups. In 2002 we were talking on the phone, which we d o daily, she was telling me of her feelings. I said, " Call you doctor". Well she did, and he admitted right away into the hospital. I am so thankful that she takes my advise over the phone and the second time her heart beat would keep her up i n the night. After two nights she mentioned on the phone, my response was, "Dee hang up and call your Doctor." Good he was one the ball. Many prayers were answered. JHR May 2005
